Small scale aquaculture has problems that large commercial systems do not

In small scale aquaculture systems, things can get out of control very quickly and there is a constant balancing act between various conflicting factors to keep things working properly.

Many experts in the field will try to deal with this by talking about testing kits, laboratories and chemical inputs, but right away - there goes your Organic production and the bills will quickly mount up. Instead, I have focused on looking for the signs of change in the system and finding non-chemical means of dealing with them. Much of this will be covered on the Water Quality and Plant Growth pages.

Perhaps the biggest problem is that there are few 'off-the-shelf' solutions to the problems of small-scale aquaculture. You will find yourself trapped between the Aquarium trade and Commercial Aquaculture, but don't give up! Really, all it takes is a bit of creativity and perseverance, and I will give you all the help I can.

Check back here from time to time for Tips and Tricks on making small-scale aquaculture work. Basically, anything that that doesn't fit on the other pages, I will cover here.
